Hydraulic Grab

ET Hydraulic Grabs are ideal for handling larger volumes of scrap. The design of the grab allows a very high gripping force, due to vertical and large cylinders and the geometry of the claws. Specially designed Hydraulic Grabs can be mounted on cranes, wheeled loaders, and tracked excavators. The grab’s innovative design allows the equipment to incorporate a very robust mechanism powered by an in-built hydraulic system for grabbing the scrap. These grabs have independent claws, each one set in motion by the double-acting cylinder. This allows the equipment to have a good grip on loose material & non-symmetrical objects. The structural parts of grab are made of high tensile strength steel, while the parts in contact with the collected scrap are made of wear-resistant special steel. Hardened steel pins and special bushings are used at all the junction points of the grab. It is suitable to work in difficult working conditions as strong protection covers are given to protect cylinders, hydraulic circuitry, and filter assembly.


  • Charges almost 4 times the volume of scrap than an electromagnet.
  • Much less power consumption as compared to the electromagnet of equivalent capacity.
  • No damages are involved in the case of electricity failure which is very problematic in the case of a magnet.
  • Reduces operations of EOT cranes.
  • No risk of insulation failure.
  • No risk of “duty cycle time limit” crosses over.
  • Handling scrap with electromagnets on the furnace platform reduces the life of the platform as a magnetic flux of the electromagnet pulls up the reinforced steel rods inside the concrete slab. This does not happen with an electro-hydraulic grab.
  • Simple electrical RDOL starter circuit.
  • No need for an isolation transformer, diodes, electronic components.
  • Excellent on measures of MTTR (Mean Time To Repair).
  • Ease for both maintenances as well as operation people.
  • The lesser dead weight than the equivalent capacity of an electromagnet on the crane.

We have commissioned this equipments in our plant on 21st May 2018 & found performance which was committed by Electrotherm was achieved.
